New Delhi: Narendra Modi was the star guest at a dinner hosted by BJP president Rajnath Singh here for his party MPs where the Gujarat Chief Minister and veteran LK Advani shared the table sitting next to each other and sharing warm vibes.
Modi was the only special invitee at the annual dinner the BJP president hosts for party MPs.
While Modi arrived early and was seen interacting with the guests, Advani arrived well past 10 pm after participating in the vote on the Land Acquisition Bill in Lok Sabha.
Sources said he was seated at the same table as Modi, in fact right next to the BJP campaign committee chief and the two shared warm vibes.
The high table also had Rajnath along with the two Leaders of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.
Advani had resigned from all party positions in the wake of Modi`s anointment as the poll campaign panel chief. He later withdrew his resignations following the intervention by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Around 200 BJP MPs attended the dinner.
Party sources said this was the customary dinner thrown for MPs from both Houses at the end of each session and had been scheduled much earlier as the monsoon session of Parliament was to end on August 30. The session has now been extended till September 6.
Singh made an exception this time by inviting the Parliamentary Board as well to include Modi, the party`s next big hope as he is now the Election Campaign Committee Chief and widely seen as BJP`s likely Prime Ministerial candidate in the Lok Sabha polls due in 2014.
The Land Acquisition Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha tonight at 10 PM, acted as a dampner for the dinner as the party got delayed. Most MPs, including Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley and ex-President Nitin Gadkari, left early.
A power point presentation by Rajesh Jain, an entrepreneur-turned-party worker, who is a member of the election sub-committee on communication and social media, was cancelled due to the delay.
Jain`s presentation was to be on the party`s position in different Lok Sabha constituencies and how it can improve its prospects in the next General Elections.
Sushma Swaraj stayed on till the end, as did Advani who had come with his daughter Pratibha. Murli Manohar Joshi, general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal and other party general secretaries as well as MPs from both Houses were also present at the dinner.
Modi left for Gandhinagar after the dinner.
