Mumbai: A team of Nashik police which is here
to take custody of contractor Ramrao Patil, who blew the lid
off Sarobjit Singh`s alleged bribe demand, will now have to
wait for some more days as CBI is recording his statement.

Official sources said police had approached the CBI to
take custody of Patil, which was turned down by the agency on
the grounds that his statement was being recorded and it
would take at least three to four days more.

The CBI said it has to record the statement of Patil in
front of the magistrate under section 164 of CrPC
(confessional statement).

A team of four officers from Nashik are here to take
custody of Patil, on whose complaint Sarobjit Singh, son of
former Union minister Buta Singh, was arrested by CBI on
alleged bribery charges.

Patil is facing a case under the SC/ST Act which was
being probed by National Commission for Scheduled Castes, of
which Buta Singh is chairman.

In a related development, the CBI has traced two shops
of a hawala dealer in Bangalore and the agency has now
approached the Enforcement Directorate to seize it and analyse
the documents.
