Chennai: As part of its ongoing coastal
security awareness initiative post 26/11 Mumbai terror attack,
the Navy will conduct a campaign in coastal villages here on
December 3 and sensitise the fishermen community.

The Coastal Security Awareness Campaign has already
covered other coastal towns in the state like Nagapattinam,
Mahabalipuram and neighbouring union territory Puducherry and
would be held in Porayar on December 2 and Chennai on December
3, a press release said here today.

The campaign with the slogan "Help us to protect you" was
aimed at improving awareness among fishermen of Tamil Nadu
coast, it said.

Six teams of Naval personnel would visit coastal villages
and make presentation to fishermen on security aspects and
action expected from them in case of witnessing any suspicious
act along the coast and report them to officials concerned.

"The presentation will also highlight the role of Navy in
the changed coastal security scenario post Mumbai terror
attacks," the release said.

Security agencies, including the state police, have
stepped up security along the 1,076 km long coastline in Tamil
Nadu in the wake of the Mumbai terror strikes, acknowledging
the fact that fishermen are their first line of information.

The multi-agency Operation Barricade, a massive security
exercise a few months back in the state, had been designed on
this line, the release said.
