NCP favours caste-based census: Pawar

Patna: Supporting the demand for
caste-based census, NCP President Sharad Pawar today said
it should be carried out for the development of the people.

"The NCP favours conduct of a caste-based census for
development of the people," Pawar told a state-level
conference of NCP workers here.
The enumeration of the number of castes should be
carried out to ensure their development and not for pursuing
caste-based politics, Pawar, the Union Agriculture Minister,
said.
His party has given the nod for caste-based census
after its opinion was by sought on the issue by the UPA
government, he said.
