NDA firm on JPC into 2G scam: Sharad Yadav

Yadav said the budget session of Parliament should be held as the NDA wanted to raise important issues like corruption and price rise among others.

New Delhi: NDA leaders Saturday held a meeting here to discuss the confabulations held separately by some of its members with Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and the government on the JPC issue and decided to remain firm in their demand and carry on the agitation against corruption.

"The NDA meeting was held in the wake of Speaker Meira Kumar`s meeting with us as we wanted to discuss among ourselves what had transpired (in the two separate meetings with her)," NDA Convener Sharad Yadav told reporters.

Yadav said the budget session of Parliament should be held as the NDA wanted to raise important issues like corruption and price rise among others.

He said in the first meeting between senior BJP leader L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj with Speaker Kumar and the government the JPC demand was put as the condition if the government wanted to run the next session of Parliament.

"In yesterday`s meeting (between other opposition leaders, Speaker and government) also, the demand for JPC formation was reiterated," Yadav said.

"The agreement among all NDA members is that we all want a JPC," he added.

Asked if the NDA would not allow the budget to be presented in the next session of Parliament, Yadav said, "Our conscience does not allow that the Parliament should not function... so we want the government to accept our JPC demand."

He said the NDA again appeals to the Congress and UPA to fulfill this demand as it was not just the demand of the opposition but of the people.

Yadav said the Public Accounts Committee was doing its job but a JPC would be needed to probe the larger issue of corruption.

The NDA meeting today also discussed the rallies planned by the alliance in different state capitals against corruption.

"We have not given up the issue of price rise. We never left it. Price rise is also a result of corruption.

There is a direct and deep relationship between corruption and price rise," Yadav said.
