New Delhi: Even as an all-party meeting was underway to resolve the Parliament standoff on the matter, the National Democratic Alliance on Monday said it wants a debate on the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail under rules that entail voting.
Janata Dal-United leader and NDA convenor Sharad yadav told reporters: "We want a debate on FDI under rule 184."
Yadav spoke to reporters as the all-party meeting was on in the Parliament House complex.
Parliament was adjourned for the day Monday for the third consecutive day over the government`s allowing foreign investment in multi-brand retail, which opposition parties, including the BJP, Left and Trinamool Congress, are against.
The all-party meet has been convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath.
The political stalemate has continued since the session began Nov 22 with the government saying it is open to discussion.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj has insisted on a vote.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ahead of the all-party meet. He has indicated that his party is not keen on a vote.
SP leader Reoti Raman Singh told reporters outside Parliament: "We want a debate on FDI, but the speaker should decide the rule under which it should be held."
The government has also expressed hope of convincing its ally, the DMK, which has said it is not in favour of the decision on FDI.
