NDMA conducts mock drills ahead of Amarnath yatra

Natural Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday conducted mock drills at Baltal and Pahalgam base camps for Amarnath yatra, to assess the preparedness of the agency to meet any eventuality.

Authority (NDMA) on Saturday conducted mock drills at Baltal and
Pahalgam base camps for Amarnath yatra, to assess the
preparedness of the agency to meet any eventuality.
"Table top mock drills were conducted at Baltal and
Pahalgam in presence of members from the NDMA and specialists
to check the preparedness for the ensuing Amarnath yatra,"
Aamir Ali, an official of the Natural Disaster Management Cell
of the state, told agency.

He said worst case scenarios in natural disasters were
given to the quick response teams to guage their preparedness.

A detailed review of the drills was carried out at a
meeting later on, Ali said.
The meetings were attended by NDMA members J K Sinha,
Muzaffar Ahmad, Major General Dutta, Brigadier B K Khanna
(both specialists), IGP Kashmir S M Sahai and officials from
civil administration and Fire Services, he added.

The annual Amarnath yatra to the 3880-metre high cave
shrine in south Kashmir is scheduled to begin from June 29.
