Guwahati: BJP leader L K Advani today said he
had "never experienced" such a mass support that he has
received in his ongoing Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption.
"I have never experienced such mass support compared
to my earlier five yatras across India. People are supporting
me because they are saddened by the corruption in the
country," Advani told a rally here.
"I was president of the Jan Sangh and BJP. I have gone on
five Yatras across India. I have participated in every
election since the first one in 1952 and the recent one in
2009. This time the peoples response is immense as they are
angry with corruption," he said.
India is on its way to becoming an economic superpower in
the 21st century and is a successful parliamentary democracy.
But corruption has put a negative mark on India, he said.
"India has a lot of strength aur hum galti hone nei denge
(we will not allow any mistake to happen)," Advani said.
He exhorted the people to repeat his slogan `Bharat desh
naya banayenga` (We will build a new India).
Speaking about his rally in Hyderabad, the BJP leader
said, "The one person in modern India who is considered to
have global impact is Swami Vivekananda. He knew it was not
wise to give lessons on religion in India.
"In his 1897 speech in Madras, Vivekananda had asked the
people to let their devis (goddesses) and devtas (gods) to
rest for the next 50 years and only keep one devi - Bharat
Mata (India) awake. Swami meant that worship of one`s country
is no less than religious worship."
