New Delhi: In a bid to encourage serious
analysis of the country's cultural resources, government on Wednesday
introduced a scheme under which Indian and foreign scholars
can take up projects or research work in 17 autonomous
institutions under the Culture Ministry.
The scheme -- Visiting Fellows in Art, Culture & Heritage
-- will be open to scholars and researchers, who have sound
academic or professional credentials, and have made
significant contribution in their respective field with
published creative work in any field of art or culture.
"The scheme is being introduced to invigorate and
revitalise the various institutions under the Ministry of
Culture which has vast 'treasures' in the form of manuscripts,
documents, artifacts, antiquities and paintings," the Ministry
said in a release.
Currently, the total number of fellowships is limited to
15 per year and this number could be increased after the
initial response.
The scheme is meant to encourage serious researches into
the country's cultural resources so that the nation stands to
benefit from the results.
The scheme at present covers 17 of the 49 institutions or
organisations under the Ministry and more can be covered
subsequently.
