Nine pilgrims killed in twin mishaps

Nine pilgrims were killed and 53 others, including 29 from Andhra Pradesh, injured in separate road mishaps in Bihar and neighbouring Jharkahnd, police said.

Four pilgrims were killed and six others injured when a
tempo toppled near Amhara Kotwali police station in Banka
district today, police said. The injured were admitted to
hospital in serious condition.

In another incident last night, five pilgrims were killed
and 18 others injured, six of them seriously, when a
tractor-trolley overturned in Rohtas district, they said.

The pilgrims were on way to native Malvar village after
offering prayers at a temple at Gupta Dham area on the
occasion of Shivaratri, they said.

The injured were admitted to a government hospital at
Sasaram.

29 pilgrims of Andhra Pradesh were injured when their bus
hit another vehicle on the G T Road in Jharkhand`s Dhanbad
district yesterday.

Altogether, 78 pilgrims of Kakenara village under East
Godavri district of Andhra Pradesh had set out on January 31
on a month-long pilgrimage.
