Nitish launches signature campaign for Bihar status

Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar today launched a JD(U) drive for obtaining one crore signatures for exerting pressure on the Centre for according special status to the state.

signatures for exerting pressure on the Centre for according
special status to the state.

Kumar said his party activists would visit different
parts of the state to obtain the signatures from one crore
people and those would be submitted to the President Pratibha
Patil.

Kumar said a backward state like Bihar deserved special
treatment after bifurcation as the mines and minerals went to
Jharkhand.

He said the state assembly had already adopted a
resolution which had already been forwarded to the centre for
according the special state catergory to Bihar.

Criticizing the Centre for ignoring the state`s demands
for special package for 2008 flood-affected people in Kosi
belt and waiver of restrictions on manufacturing ethanol from
sugarcane juice, he said the Centre`s restrictions had
deprived Bihar of investments to the tune of more than 38,000
crore.
