Jammu: No incident of cross-border firing has
been reported along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and
Kashmir for the past one year, BSF has claimed.
"There was no firing witnessed from across the IB in the
state during past over 11 months period. There is peace on the
borderline," Inspector General (IG), Jammu Frontier Siddarth
Chattopadhyaya said at a function here.
He said, "There was heavy firing in past and people had to
suffer. There are no exchanges of firing between troops of two
sides now."
His remarks came close on the heels of Ceasefire
violation by Pakistani troops along Line of Control (LoC) in
Krishnagati sub-sector of Poonch district on May 5. They had
violated ceasefire earlier on April 22 and 24 in Poonch
sector.
There have been nine ceasefire violations along Line of
Control (LOC) by the Pakistani troops, who fired RPGs, rockets
and opened indiscriminate firing of Medium Machine Guns (MMGs)
and small arms in Poonch sector this year.
Referring to relation of troops on Indo-Pak border, he
said, "There are bad patches, gray patches and dark patches.
But as human beings, we love each other".
