Dharamsala: Talks between Tibetan leaders
and Chinese officials on the vexed Tibetan issue failed to
bear any result, special envoys of the Dalai Lama on Tuesday said.
"There was no forward movement during the talks
with China," Kelsang Gyaltsen told reporters here.
Special representatives Lodi G Gyari and Gyaltsen,
accompanied by senior assistants Tenzin P Atisha, Bhuchung K
Tsering, both members of Tibetan Task Force on negotiations
and Jigmey Passang from the secretariat of the Tibetan task
force, held the ninth round of talks with Chinese officials in
Beijing recently.
The ninth round was held after a gap of 15 months. The
eight round was held in November 2008 before the Beijing
Olympics.
According to Gyari, the Chinese authorities have asked
Tibetans not to indulge in anti-China activities.
"Tibetans should not indulge in activities which harm
the aspirations of the Chinese people and China's relations
with other countries," Gyari quoted the Chinese officials as
saying.
The eight round of talks came to a standstill after a
memorandum on genuine autonomy for Tibetan people submitted by
the Tibetan side met with derision by the Chinese side which
called it a demand for "half independence, disguised
independence or covert independence".
Failure of the talks forced the Tibetan temporal head
to call a special meeting of friends of Tibet from world over
in Delhi last year to discuss future course of action.
Recently US President Barack Obama had said he would ask China
to resume dialogue with the Tibetans to find solution to the
problem.
