New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday dismissed the reports which claimed that he has sought a delay in Narendra Modi`s coronation as the prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before state Assembly polls scheduled in November.
Expressing his views, Chouhan tweeted: “Reports in certain sections of media around my objection to Shri @narendramodi being declared as PM candidate are baseless & misleading.”
On the issue of prime ministerial candidate, Chouhan said, “In BJP, the party is supreme and it will decide and declare the PM candidate at right moment. Any speculation in this regard is avoidable.”
Earlier, reports had indicated that the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister had requested RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and BJP president Rajnath Singh to formally announce his Gujarat counterpart as the party`s PM candidate after Assembly polls.
It was learnt that Chouhan had voiced his concerns to Rajnath and Bhagwat that projecting Modi at this juncture could alienate Muslim voters in Madhya Pradesh.
The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister had also sported a skull cap while greeting Muslims on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr, a gesture prompting a suggestion that his Gujarat counterpart Modi should not show his "aversion" to this headgear.
