New Delhi: Arjun Bajpayee, who scaled the
world`s highest peak, the 8,848 metre Mt Everest at the young
age of 16, today returned home to an overwhelming reception, a
week after achieving the feat.
Bajpayee, a resident of Noida, had briefly become the
youngest person to climb the Mount Everest last week but his
feat overturned hours later by a 13-year-old American.
After reaching home, he went to his school and shared
his experiences with his schoolmates.
He said the expedition was "fun" and it was his dream
to become a world-class mountaineer that prompted him to scale
the Mount Everest.
"I was inspired by Col J S Dhillon. He used to tell me
stories of other mountaineers. This inspired me to climb the
Everest," he said.
Bajpayee, part of a 12-member expedition team, began
his quest in April, when his team set up their base camp at
the Khumbu Glacier. The team spent another 40 days
acclimatising.
A Class 12 student of Ryan International School,
Bajpayee completed a basic course in mountaineering from Nehru
Institute of Mountaineering at Uttarkashi and after taking
part in a number of expeditions to peaks over 6000 metres high
set his sights on Mount Everest.
