Shillong: BSF Director General Raman
Srivastava no Saturday said many allowances given to army personnel
are also enjoyed by the paramilitary force and he was not sure
if there was any disparity of pay between them.
Srivastava's comment came a day after the BSF director
general's New Delhi office received a mysterious parcel
containing pieces of detonators concealed in a book and an
unsigned letter about grievances over 'disparity' of pay
between personnel of the paramilitary force and the army.
"I am not sure in what way there is disparity (in pays
and perks of army and BSF) and whether there is any disparity
or not...A lot of allowances enjoyed by the army are also
being given to the BSF personnel," Srivastava said here before
leaving for New Delhi.
"We have sent a lot of proposals to the government.
They are pending. I am sure they will be given favourable
consideration," the DG said.
Srivastava was not present when the parcel came to his
office as he is on tour of the Meghalaya border.
The pieces of detonators and the letter were kept in a
specially-created cavity in the book, he said, adding Delhi
Police have been asked to investigate the matter.
Srivastava said unless he reads the letter, it will be
difficult to comment anything further on the incident.
The BSF has initiated a Court of Enquiry into the
incident and the courier boy who delivered the parcel was
arrested.
