Srinagar: Amidst a complete shutdown and
tight security cover, Jammu and Kashmir Chief minister Omar
Abdullah today visited Shopian to attend the meeting of
district development board.
This is the first time that Omar has visited Shopian
after the double rape and murder of two young women rocked the
area in May last year.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, which won both
seats from Shopian district in 2008 assembly elections
boycotted the meeting saying visiting Shopian without
fulfilling the demands of the local people was nothing but
"rubbing salt on their wounds."
"It is nothing but rubbing salt on the wounds of the
people of Shopian. Justice was not delivered to the people of
the town (in the alleged rape and murder of two young women).
Meanwhile, Majlis-e-Mashawarat Shopian (MMS), a non-
political organisation, also called for observance of "civil
curfew" in view of Chief Minister's visit to the town.
"Chief minister had promised that his government will not
take rest till the guilty in Shopian double rape and murder
case are booked. But you see the manipulated results have been
made public" President of MMS Abdul Rashid Dalal said.
