New Delhi: A beggar was killed and nine
other people were injured today in three accidents in south
Delhi, including one involving a French national, police said.
The French national was arrested this afternoon after his
car hit an unidentified beggar who died on the spot in Vasant
Vihar, a senior police official said.
The beggar was crossing the road when the incident took
place, the official said.
"Eyewitnesses told us that the beggar was drunk and was
crossing the road when the accident took place," a senior
police official said.
The beggar was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was
declared brought dead.
The French national was arrested and a case under
Section 304(a) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and
279 (rash and negligent driving) of Indian Penal Code was
registered against him.
He works in a private firm in Greater Kailash. He was
released on bail.
In another accident, seven persons were injured this
morning when a speeding Tata Safari hit three autoricshaws,
two motorcycles and a scooter in New Friends Colony.
Surender Sharma, a businessman, lost control of his
vehicle, hit a divider and then rammed into other vehicles
injuring seven persons, the official said.
The injured bikers have been identified as Thomas, Suresh
and Sanjay while the injured auto drivers were Harish, Dheeraj
and Munna. The scooterist has been identified as Shakir.
Sharma was arrested and a case registered against him.
The third incident took place in Kalkaji at around 1:30
am when two friends -- Naveen and Manish -- were returning
home on their motorcycle after offering puja at Chhatarpur
temple as part of `navratra` celebrations.
The duo`s motorcycle was hit by a car driven allegedly
by Saurabh, the driver of a lawyer.
A case has been registered and he was arrested.
