New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday greeted his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on India`s Independence Day and wished its people prosperity.

Yesterday, Modi had congratulated Pakistan on its Independence Day, which comes a day before India`s Independence Day.
"Prime Minister Sharif greets Prime Minister Modi on India`s Independence Day, wishing prosperity to the people of India," the Pakistan High Commission said here.

The exchange of greetings came days after a war of words broke out following Modi`s comments that Pakistan was involved in a "proxy war" against India.
Pakistan had termed Modi`s comments as "baseless rhetoric" which was strongly criticised by External Affairs Ministry.

In a strong rebuttal, the External Affairs Ministry said terrorism was a "core concern" in its bilateral ties with Pakistan and its "tool kit" is not restricted in any manner to combat it effectively.

Foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet in Islamabad on August 25.
