New Delhi: A day after serial blasts rocked the city of Patna, ahead of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi`s rally, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said on Monday that lives were lost because somebody was playing awful kind of politics.

Talking to a news agency, Salman said, "What happened in Patna was very sad. Lives were lost because somebody was playing awfull kind of politics," adding, "Was the rally suspended, the script was not changed. After an event like this happens you should give up what you are doing."

Taking a dig at BJP leaders, he said, "Should you not attend to people who are hurt or you grandstand and continue with your speech."

On the criticism that Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde is facing for attending the music release of a Hindi film yesterday after the blasts, Khurshid said that he had a life beyond Patna. "You criticize Mr Shinde for carrying on with life as usual but nobody is asking the question, did nothing happen to Mr Modi," Khurshid retorted.

He slammed the BJP`s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 General Elections for going ahead with his speech and not saying a word about the people who died. "Not a word about what had happened because it wasn`t in the script or was it in the script we hadn`t seen," Khurshid said.
