Ghazipur: The Congress has said that Rahul
Gandhi may not like being projected as the future Prime
Minister but the people of the country view him as one.
"Although Congress President Sonia Gandhi had refused to
accept the top office and Rahul Gandhi has expressed his
reservations about being projected as the future prime
minister, the people of the country view him as one," party
General Secretary Digvijay Singh told reporters here
yesterday.
Claiming that the Gandhi scion's visits to houses of the
poor and downtrodden and his sharing the problems of Dalits
had earned the Congress the support of the scheduled castes,
Singh said it was evident in the mass support shown to the
party at its convention in Mau.
"It has been proved once again that Congress is the only
party truly committed to the uplift of the poor", Singh, who
is also in-charge of the party's affairs in Uttar Pradesh,
said.
Exuding confidence that support for the party has grown
among all sections of society, he said Congress would contest
the coming assembly elections in UP alone and form a
government on its own.
He also announced that the party would soon launch an
agitation on issues like prevailing corruption in NREGS and
problems of the poor and farmers.
To a question Singh advised Samajwadi Party President
Mulayam Singh Yadav not to waste his time worrying about the
Congress and take good care of his own party.
