PF scam: SC asks CBI to file report within 4 wks

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked CBI to place before it the fresh status report relating to its investigation into UP Provident Fund scam in which names of judicial officers, judge have cropped up.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked
CBI to place before it the fresh status report relating to its
investigation into Uttar Pradesh Provident Fund scam in which
names of judicial officers, including the judges of High Court
and an apex court, judge have cropped up.

A three-judge Bench headed by Justice D K Jain also
asked Attorney General G E Vahanvati, who is assisting the
court, to ascertain from the Delhi High Court whether the case
could be transferred from a designated CBI court in Ghaziabad
to any CBI court in Delhi.

The apex court gives four weeks time to the
investigating agency to file its report and posted the matter
for further hearing in the first week of November.

The probe agency has so far filed four status reports
before the apex court in the PF scam.

The names of 34 members of the judiciary have cropped
up in the scam, including an apex court judge, seven Allahabad
High Court judges, six retired High Court judges and 12 judges
of the subordinate judiciary in Uttar Pradesh.

The first chargesheet in the case was filed by the
Uttar Pradesh Police before the investigation of the case was
transferred to CBI by the apex court on September 23 last
year.
