PM apologises for remark on Vajpayee Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: With the BJP continuing to disrupt the Parliament over Congress MP Beni Prasad Verma’s derogatory remark on Vajpayee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took the lead Wednesday and offered an apology on behalf of the government.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, the PM, who has yesterday night arrived from Russia, said, “I was not present in the house (yesterday), but I have learnt that some very undesirable development took place.”

“A member of our ruling coalition said something that was inappropriate; with regard to Vajpayee those words where used. I on behalf of our government apologise that those words should not have been used,” the PM said.

Beni Prasad Verma had invited the wrath of the saffron brigade –during the Liberhan debate – for using slang Bhojpuri word 'neech' to refer to Vajpayee as someone of ‘low standing’.

Verma, Member of Parliament from Gonda in UP, had also poked fun at Leader of the Opposition LK Advani, contending that he had no business to debate about the birthplace of Lord Ram. ''Does he know where he was born? He was scared of Muslims, so he came running to India,’’ Verma said.

BJP and allies had created pandemonium in the house and sought an apology from the Congress MP for ''using an unparliamentary language against former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani.’’

But Verma refused to apologise and had only expressed regret for his remarks, if it had hurt anybody’s sentiments.

However, understanding the political implications of the issue, the PM took the lead today and apologised on behalf of the government – a move, that is sure to have come as a surprise even to the BJP.

Comments of Mr. Verma on Hindus who came to India after partition that they are scared of muslim is a matter of shame for all those who migrated to India their motherland. India cannot afford to have such parliamentarian. He has not seen those bad days when muslims were using their power to slaughter the hindus, whereas hindus cooperated and helped muslims. It is the greatness ofHindus, who are proud to he Indians.

Shame Shame Congress`s MP Verma, You don`t deserve to be in Parliament. I appreciate Manmohan Singhji to cover up and apologies on behalf of Verma. Atalji is the tallest leader in Indian politics. So can Manmohanji become with such humble actions. We are proud of Atalji and Manmohanji...

This remark is very disturbing for not only Vajpayee & Advani,But also for the entire nation,This show how low category our MPs are and from also low standards they are.

The remark on Advani that he came running to India in scared of Muslim is very disturbing for entire sindhi community who came from pakistan because we are Hindu India is our country so that is why we came here.

I strongly urged Zee news to take up this issue which has hurt entire sindhi community of India,This show though we are hindu but we have been not respected in our own home.

I personally feel that this statement will create hatred for Sindhis in India.and there should something legally done in against of this matter against Verma.

PM SHOULD ALSO APOLOGISE ADVANI & ENTIRE SINDHI COMMUNITY OF INDIA

I would like to tell that Vajpayee was the person who made a Shining India in the international scenario. He was the person who showed the world that India could survive with respect without the international aid. He was the person who made the relationship with the neighbor countries normal. If such a person is being scolded as ``neech`` in a platform like parliament this is a matter of shame not only for Mr BP Verma not only for the congress party but for the whole nation. If BJP demands the apology from Mr. BP Verma then there is nothing wrong. Will Mr. BP Verma dare to remark the same to Rajiv Gandhi for 1984 anti-sikh riot who had told that ``if a big tree falls it is natural that the earth will be shaken a little`` this little shake had destroyed thousands of people. While Babri Masjid demolition was a bloodless activity.
