‘PM is man with a steel grip in a silken glove’

"The Prime Minister is a man with a grip of steel in a silken glove."

New Delhi: "The Prime Minister is a man with
a grip of steel in a silken glove."

This was how Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid put it
when a newsman suggested that Manmohan Singh is celebrating
his birthday today during the "toughest" moments of his prime
ministerial tenure during UPA`s first and second term in the
wake of several scams confronting the government.

Khurshid went on to say that the overall functioning of
the government will be judged at the end of Singh`s five year
term in UPA-II.

Recalling an old English proverb "when the going goes
tough, the tough gets going", Singh said "the Prime Minister
is a man with a grip of steel in a silken glove".

Khurshid said the performance of the government cannot be
judged merely on one issue but that there was need for taking
a holistic view at the end of the five-year term.

"We have two and half years to go still and the people
will judge us at the end of term," he said.
