PM Manmohan Singh to get World Statesman Award Washington: The Appeal of Conscience Foundation on Friday announced to felicitate Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with its prestigious World Statesman Award for the year 2010.

The award would be presented to the Prime Minister in September, said John Negroponte, the former Deputy Secretary of State, at a reception hosted at the residence of Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar in Washington yesterday.

Shankar said the Prime Minister has graciously accepted the award.

Among the past recipients of this prestigious award include British Prime Minister Gordon Brown (2009), French President Nicolas Sarkozy (2008), German Chancellor Angela Merkel (2007) and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2006).

The Appeal of Conscience Foundation was founded by Rabbi Arthur Schneier in 1965. It has worked on behalf of religious freedom and human rights throughout the world.

This interfaith coalition of business, religious and foreign policy leaders promotes peace, tolerance and ethnic conflict resolution.

It also provides a voice of conscience to protect minorities at a time of increasing ethnic conflict in many regions of the world.

My first comment is consistent with my subsequent comment. The Statesman Award has been announced by The Appeal of Conscience Foundation which provides a voice of conscience to protect minorities at a time of increasing ethnic conflict in many regions of the world.

I think there is a distinction between protection of minorities versus their appeasement. And so, my first comment was on the appeasement that he and his party have been practicing, which I think you have recognized as well in your comment.

I know that Sikhs and Hindus are the same, I see Sikhs as my brothers. My point was that despite Manmohan Singh being a PM representing Congress for several years, hasn`t been able to bring justice to perpetrators of Anti-Sikh riots in 1984 - AFTER 26 YEARS!!

As regards Core Issues, perhaps we have a difference of opinion. I see Security and not Economy as a key priority.

gurpalsingh - Dubai: All my comments are along the same message - let me explain. The award has been given by `The Appeal of Conscience Foundation` which provides a voice of conscience to protect minorities at a time of increasing ethnic conflict in many regions of the world. And so, the award is linked with protection of minorities. Now, protection is one thing and appeasement another, which I think both you and I agree with. Further, the number of terrorist attacks has risen considerably in the last 20 years and I see the situation getting worse by the day and I see security and not economy as a core issue. I don`t see Sikhs any different from Hindus and have always stated that Sikhs have been the greatest patriots in India. Like I said, I have grown up in the company of Sikh friends and see them as my brothers. The reason I raise the issue is that justice hasn`t happened even after 26 years. Why aren`t those responsible for the rioting still brought to justice? Especially now that Manmohan Singh is at the helm of affairs. Been a good experience exchanging thoughts with you. Have a good day.

BHARAT.... I have no intention to change your view and perception. I think you have deviated from the point of his getting the award and linking to some thing else. which you rightly pointed out as a compulsion to protect his party to get more close to some minority.. Your first message was Sarcastic and has no link what you mentioned. Yes , we know that we are working hard ... Thaks for the compliment but politically , as a Great econimist , world now see and repect INdia becoz of this Man which is more Visible. Regarding your core issues, such a vast country , 100% you cannot achieve and set right as there are other Bloody politicians and parties , who donot want to make things set right....hence PM is not a magic Wand in 5 years..... and Last but not the least even I am Sikh but my fiends are Hindus and as Such there is no difference in Hindus a& Sikhs if you know the History, our 9 Gurus were Hindus.... So I do not why you raise the isssue....Jai Hind..

Gurpal Singh - Dubai: Because you don`t agree with my point of view, it doesn`t mean that you get to call me petty and idiotic. But that`s alright, you have and we can`t change that. My perspective - Indians are respected abroad because of people like you who are hard working, sincere, intelligent and honest. No PM has any contribution or role to play in that. Think about this - if the PM of Britain is Tony Blair or Gordon Brown - does it make in any difference in how you perceive a British person? As far as integrity goes, not sure if you`ve read my other comments, but I have always expressed that what happened during Indira Gandhi`s time against the sikhs was very wrong. What is even more bothersome to me now is that a charge sheet has been filed after 26 years of the horrible crimes. And even so, when a representative of the community is our PM. Couldn`t he have put more pressure on his own party to admit to the horrific crimes? People like Rajiv Gandhi and Jagdish Tytler have been given a clean chit. Further, no action has been taken on the 26/11 conspirators. I am sorry, the World Statesman Award doesn`t mean a lot unless some of the core issues surrounding our great country are addressed. If, after this, you still don`t agree - that is alright - I respect your right to have your own opinion. By the way, I am a Hindu who has grown up in the company of Sikh friends.

I would suggest BHARAT to wash your idiotic petty & narrow mind set. Instead of Congratulating Think Twice before pointing finger and sarcastic about PM`s integerity and world fame which not for himself but also for India. We Know how Indians are generally respected outside living out of India. It is all DUE to our present PM. JAi HIND...CONRATS to PM and this award is for our GREAT INDIA now one of the Worls economic POWER.

Instead of following the 10 gurus of Sikh religion, MadMohan is following the 12 apostels of Christian religion. MadMohan: Sikh nr. 1

I have also created my own award and am announcing it for Manmohan Singh. It is called the `Friend of Islam` award. The runner up is Mayawati. I have also decided to posthumously award it to M K Gandhi.
