Silchar: Leader of the Opposition in
Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday demanded the resignation of
Prime Minister for allegedly failing to stem corruption in his
Addressing an election rally in Silchar, Swaraj said the
Prime Minister should resign on moral grounds as he had failed
to punish the corrupt ministers involved in the various
scandals hitting the government in the recent past.
BJP, she said, was seeking mandate on the plank of good
"Unprecedented price hike has hit hard the common people
during the UPA regime ... The common man has been affected
and there was no question of Congress getting mandate again
from the voters," she said.
She sought a clarification from Congress on remarks by
AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh that Hindus who had to
flee Bangladesh due to religious persecution after the
cut-off date of 1971 had no right to stay in the country.
"The statement was unfortunate ... BJP is for granting
refugee status to the Hindu migrants who were forced to flee
Bangladesh due to religious persecution," she added.
