New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited Arjun Singh`s home here on Saturday to pay homage to the departed Congress leader.

A sombre Prime Minister arrived at the Akbar Road residence of Arjun Singh, where his body was kept after his death on Friday, shortly after Sonia Gandhi left the residence.

Both Gandhi and Manmohan Singh expressed their condolences to the grieving family.

The veteran Congress leader, a former governor of Punjab and chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, died of cardiac arrest at age 80. A condolence meeting was organised by the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

Home Minister P Chidambaram, Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Virbhadra Singh and Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Brinda Karat also visited Arjun Singh`s house.

Many Congress workers kept raising slogans hailing Arjun Singh.

According to a family member, Singh`s body would be flown to his hometown Churhat in Madhya Pradesh where the last rites will be performed on Sunday.

A special meeting of the CWC -- from which Arjun Singh was dropped only hours before his death -- was held at Gandhi`s house on Saturday to mourn the death, a party leader said.
