PMO rejects Gadkari’s CWG allegations, calls them baseless Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: As the blame game continued between the two top political parties of India on the issue of corruption in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) rejected BJP president Nitin Gadkari’s allegations that it was involved in wrong-doings.

Sources in PMO told Zee News that the facts and figures presented by the Opposition are factually incorrect.

PMO sources said Rs 70,000 crore was not spent on the games as was claimed by the BJP chief earlier today. At a special press conference here, BJP President Nitin Gadkari targeted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his entire cabinet, alleging that the Prime Minister himself sanctioned advances to Organising Committee head Suresh Kalmadi.

They clarified that money spent on other infrastructure like Metro Rail, flyovers etc. should not be included in the CWG expenditure as it was anyways supposed to be done for Delhi.

Clarifying the amount sanctioned by the government, the sources said, the Union Cabinet had cleared Rs 11687 crore for the games. Later, Rs 193 crore of additional money was also passed by the Cabinet but it is nowhere near the amount of Rs 70,000 crore.

Claiming to have documentary evidence, Gadkari said, "The first advances released to Suresh Kalmadi were by the Prime Minister. He has signed it. Why? and why was there no control over it."

Gadkari demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation into all aspects of the Games, especially the role of the political leadership. He said the "concrete evidence" collected by the BJP would be submitted to the JPC.

Prime Minister is definitely involved in the loot of CW game. In 2007 Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyer wrote to PM on the CWG loot very clearly. But PMO had hiden the letter. Aiyer also claimed that he will took the complaint to Sonia Gandhi, and I am sure he may have took it. It means Sonia knew about the loot of CWG.

first ask why india paid 137 crore rupees to the 72 member nations to acquire the bid in 2003. At that time the BJP`s NDA was in power. Than ask congress government, why they speak different expenditure amount, in august at time of parliament session manish tiwari said the budget is only 11,494crore, at the same time delhi finance minister said 7,423.20 crore, and now PMO said the expenditure is (11,687+193) crore. Does they not mantain proper expenditure list???? this answer surely indicates that UPA government involved in the scam, the amount will be spent in bihar election

Brij,
Congress is the only reason for corruption in India. They started policy of favouratism & family politics, they just do not want to get out of power,& will do anything to regain it, all policies made are to protect themselves from any juducial probe.
They make every road in the name of their leaders, but when Mayawati wants to build a park they oppose it. We have to throw them out from power.

By promoting vote-bank politics, BJP president Nitin Gadkari to hide his own party`s failings, he is levelling allegations of corruption and misuse of govt.funds against the PMO, even PM Dr Manmohasn Singh himself. As rightly refuted Gadkari`s allegations by the PMO, Nitin Gadkari shuld have verified, before levelling allegations, the correctness of the amount figures spent on the XIX Commonwealth Games, Delhi. The sincerity of the PMO and the ruling UPA government can be judged by the promptness that is, immediately on closing of the CWG, by ordering a CVC probe into the CWG who has started work in the right earnest. A number of raids, jointly by the CVC, IT and ED on the premises of the CWG contractors, including one Sidhanshu Mittal of BJP have already taken place. Since the investigations into CWG are being carried out by the expert government agencies, e.g. CVC, IT and ED, there is no need for a JPC.
