PMO seeks report from Railway Ministry on Arunima incident

New Delhi: Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Thursday today sought a report from the Railway Ministry on the incident involving national level football player Arunima Sinha, who lost her leg after being thrown out by robbers from a running train near Bareilly on Monday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is away in Sanya in China attending the BRICS Summit, expressed "sadness" on the incident, sources said.

Besides ordering a probe into the incident, the Railway Ministry has also decided to extend all help for her rehabilitation which includes a suitable job in Railways.

The compensation will be given to her by the Railway Claims Tribunal.

Sports Minister Ajay Maken announced a medical compensation of Rs.two lakh besides an immediate ex-gratia of Rs 25,000 and all possible help to Arunima.
