Poorvanchal state: Congress, BJP lash out at Mayawati

Congress and BJP on Sunday lashed out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for writing a fresh letter to the Prime Minister in support of a separate Poorvanchal state.

Lucknow: Congress and BJP on Sunday lashed out
at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for writing a fresh
letter to the Prime Minister in support of a separate
Poorvanchal state.

Terming the new letter as a political gimmick, Congress
Legislative Party leader in the UP assembly Pramod Tiwari said
that if the government was serious on the issue it should get
a resolution passed in the state assembly and forward it to
the Centre.

"The state government is merely indulging in a political
stunt. If it is serious in its approach, the government should
get a resolution passed in the state assembly and forward it
to the Centre for further action," Tiwari said.

UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and vice president of
the state BJP Hriday Narain Dixit in separate statements said
that keeping in mind the demand for fresh states being raised
from different parts it would be better that second state
reorganisation commission be constituted for taking a final
decision.

Dixit criticised the Chief Minister for writing letters
to the centre for all problems and termed her government as
"letter government".

On division of state, he said BJP is in favour of smaller
states and would take a decision when a resolution was brought
in the house.
