New Delhi: Blaming the government`s "wrong economic policies" for the farmers` suicide in the country, BJP President Nitin Gadkari on Friday said the administration should lay emphasis on socio-economic development and employment generation for the country`s prosperity.
He said in today`s technology driven society, honesty and
efficiency are also important elements in guiding the country
towards prosperity.

Gadkari felt that if the government has "the intention,
the will and the motivation", it can execute several welfare
measures within limited resources.

"We neglected the rural area and hence are paying the
price for the mushrooming of slums in urban clusters.
Therefore, our policy should be based on eradication of
poverty and generating employment to stop incidences like
farmers committing suicide and migration to urban areas," he
said at function here.
Gadkari also strongly emphasised on taking up programmes
with private participation which are based on modernisation.

He felt that his decoration as BJP President and
recognition came because of his "focused approach" for the
uplift of the poor and taking up rural infrastructure
development programme as a minister in the BJP-led Maharashtra
Government.
