Power grid failure: ‘Undisciplined’ UP blamed again

New Delhi: With the Northern Grid failing for second consecutive day, the blamed is being put at Uttar Pradesh’s door for not confirming with grid discipline.

Reports said on Tuesday the Uttar Pradesh is guilty of not maintaining grid discipline and causing the entire system to collapse. The situation was more serious today as along with the northern grid, the eastern and the north-eastern grid failed.

Yesterday’s as well as today’s power failure was triggered by a fault in the grid near Taj city Agra.

Uttar Pradesh is one of the biggest states in the country but is also critically power starved. The power ministry at the Centre has accused the state of overdrawing power from the grid leading to its collapse.

Following yesterday’s power outage, the chairman of UP Power Grid Corporation was sacked and replace by AP Mishra but the situation is yet to improve.

However, Uttar Pradesh has termed the allegation as a conspiracy by the Centre to tarnish the state’s image.

All Energy managers know that electricity shortage can be wiped out with CHP technology without the Government spending a rupee. Successive governments have ignored Captive Power - Co generation (CHP) technology. CHP uses a combination of Steam Boiler and Back Pressure Turbine. The steam after generating electricity is sent to the factory for processing. This is akin to Hydro power. Co-Generated power is very efficient and consumes 20% less coal than conventional systems. This is also good news for the environment. The technology is widely available with Indian manufacturers but Bureau of Energy Efficiency has not taken a lead in forcing industries to adapt to it. Easy availability of Grid power has made state governments lax and they have not put up any significant capacity. With Coal India faltering in supplies, the situation only gets worse. Its time for Government and Industry to wakeup. 25% additional power thru cogeneration is waiting to be tapped.

Well, if Uttar Pradesh is overdrawing, then, why is Shushil Kumar Shinde and the Govt. at Centre playing a blame game. When, you needed the votes of our Muslim dominated Uttar Pradesh to get your Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee win, then, you lured the same Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh Singh for the votes in the Parliament. Now, that your purpose has been solved and you have got what you needed you are putting the blame on our state. Putting a blame on a state means that you are blaming the ruling Govt. and the people of that state. And, the ruling Govt. in a state is formulated by the majority population in a state. And, the majority population in Uttar Pradesh is of Muslims. So, this directly means that we as Muslins are over-drawing power in our Holy month of Ram-zaan. So, where is the secularity of this Central Govt. now ? You are guys are worse than the B.J.P. Atleast they work for us and they are not playing a blame game on each other at all. Sick of Sonia and Rahul and Pranab and Sishil Kumar Shinde.

A few more facts before the blame - In the weeks leading up to the failure, extreme heat had caused power use to reach record levels in New Delhi. Due to the late arrival of monsoons, agricultural areas in Punjab and Haryana drew increased power from the grid for paddy season The late monsoon also meant that hydroelectric plants were running under their usual production.

This seems a radiculus comment. One person is fasting at the age of 72 for the country`s future. We should appreciate his efforts. Grid failure is a technical matter. Such repetitive failures are one more example of the `Nakarapan` of this Govt. at centre.

UP is the state to still have un-metered domestic and commercial connections. The heaters are used for cooking. It has the highest transformer failing incidences.

it is quite possible like everything else in UP, but whst is surprising is that where is the grid monitoring system, if some state or point is overdrawing power, why isn`t there alarm or trip before the grid goes down?? it shouldn`t take 24 hours

How can someone ``tarnish`` the image of Uttar Pradesh. The statement would have been more believable if it came from Gujarat or Bihar where the local economy is shining. Uttar Pradesh, like the rest of India knows, is a state with high levels of corruption, casteism, illiteracy, large scale under development and political strife. So, its no wonder the blame is on Uttar Pradesh!
