Hyderabad: With internal differences
coming to the fore in the ruling congress in Andhra Pradesh
following the demise of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, senior party
leader and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday told
the partymen to remain united in the interest of the party.
"In a multi-party system, there will be various
political parties and divergence of views. Similarly in a
large party like Congress, there may be divergence of youth
within the party. But we can sortout and iron out the
differences and dedicate for the greater cause of the people.
That is the spirit with which all of us work," he said.
Mukherjee was addressing a meeting of the state
Congress executive committee after the meeting of Congress
Legislature Party (CLP). The CLP passed a resolution
authorising party president Sonia Gandhi to name its new
leader.
Mukherjee asked the partymen to remain united in the
changed circumstances following the death of YSR.
"I have no doubt in the new situation the Congressmen
and women in Andhra Pradesh will recognise the changed
circumstances and rededicate themselves for strengthening the
party," he said.
Mukherjee peptalk came in the wake of the clamour for
making Rajasekhara Reddy's son Jaganmohan Reddy as chief
minister which as opposed by another section of senior party
leaders.
Highlighting the importance of unity, Mukherjee said
the Congress could retain power in Maharashtra, Haryana and
Arunachal Pradesh where it fought the elections unitedly.
The party can beat anti-incumbency if it is determined
and remained united, he said.
Union Law Minister and in-charge of Congress affairs
in Andhra Pradesh Veerappa Moily said the party's performance
in the just-concluded Corporation elections in Hyderabad was
not satisfactory though it is ahead of all others.
The constant endeavour of the partymen should be to
build the party for achieving success at the hustings always,
he said.
State Congress president D Srinivas felt that a
section of the people voted for Telugu Desam Party in the
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah expressed confidence that the
Congress would come to power at the Centre in 2014 general
elections with absolute majority under the leadership of Sonia
Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
