Pranab, Modi spar on price rise at CMs` conference New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday had a spat during the conference on food prices here after the former accused Modi of politicising the issue of sale of wheat and rice at concessional rates.

Mukherjee intervened at the Chief Ministers' conference on prices when Modi was slamming the Centre for its policies and questioning the fulfilment of their election promises on sale of wheat and rice at Rs 3 per kg for below poverty line people.

The Union minister accused Modi of politicising the issue and the Gujarat Chief Minister, in turn, said there was no politics in asking the Centre about its promises, sources said.

When asked about the spat later, Modi told reporters, "I am only asking them to meet at least their election promise. What is politics in it?"

Modi accused the Centre of not being ready with any action plan to cool down surging prices.

Centre is a non performing govt. What they do is not political, but if anybody questions them it becomes political. This high headedness has to go if results are required. Congress has nowhere fulfilled its promises, but still you are no body to question them.In the case of pricing it has all through been a deliberate attempt t to help out the traders in connivance with congress elected members.

It is a well known fact that the Centre is doing nothing and they dont have strategy for any of the problems that our country is facing now, let alone thespurge in prices.

What is needed is a strong hearted leader to take bold steps that will show effects on prices and terrorism both as both are injurious to the common men and not those sitting in Delhi with five star kitchen facilities and 100 commandos to protect them.

I do not see anything wrong in Modi raising the issue of making available the foodgrains for people below the poverty line. What is Politics about it? Was it not the promise of the Congress? Congress party is rasing extraneous issues like Azamgarh visit, Rahul`s visit to Mumbai, Shiv Sena`s ire against SRK to divert the attention of the people. One can fool the public for some time and not all the time. Let the Government concentrate its attention to attack the price rise which is affecting Middle class and the lower middle class people. Politicians are not affected by this. Where is CPM and other communists. they raised hue and cry during Nuclear issue. Where are they when they should be addrssing people`s problems.
