New Delhi: Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, on Thursday reiterated in the Lok Sabha that his statements were ‘distorted’ by Team Anna yesterday night. He also clarified that after the all-party meeting, while addressing the press, he had categorically stated that Anna Hazare’s health was paramount for them and “a healthy Anna was needed to serve the nation”.
"Never said Hazare`s fast was problem of civil society. I appealed to him to break his fast", he said.
It was reportedly said that the finance minister had stated that Anna Hazare being on fast was his problem and not the governments.
Yesterday night, members of Team Anna, Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi, while addressing the crowd at Ramlila Ground had said that the talks with the government had gone back to square one. They repeated the same today in the morning when Kejriwal said that they did not know whom to talk and where to talk.
Pranab Muherjee was replying to a question put forth by Leader of the Opposition, Sushma Swaraj asking the Congress leader to clarify as to what the government’s stand was. According to BJP, at the all-party meeting at PM Manmohan Singh’s residence on Wednesday, it was unanimously decided that Anna Hazare must be asked to break his fast and secondly, it was also decided that a new Lokpal Bill must be brought giving consideration to Jan Lokpal Bill.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon after BJP created an uproar over shift in government`s stand on Anna Hazare agitation.
