New Delhi: Disclosing UPA’s cards for the first time, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that according to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is their first choice for President.
Banerjee also said that Vice President Hamid Ansari was proposed as UPA’s second choice for President.
The Trinamool Congress chief made this crucial announcement after meeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at 10, Janpath.
Earlier before meeting Gandhi, the West Bengal Chief Minister said she had never linked the financial concessions for the state with Presidential polls.
“I have never asked for Bengal package. I have only asked for moratorium (on the debt interest payment) for three years,” she told reporters ahead of leaving for her meeting with the Congress chief.
Mamata said Presidential polls and financial package are separate issues. “It is somebody’s conspiracy to mix issues... it happens whenever I come to Delhi,” she said.
