Prasar Bharti an autonomous body: Soni on CAT issue
Ambika Soni said the Prasar Bharti was an autonomous body and need not need the government`s approval for such appointments.
New Delhi: A day after the Central Administrative Tribunal quashed appointment of 25 Doordarshan journalists, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni said the Prasar Bharti was an autonomous body and need not need the government`s approval for such appointments.
"If any mistakes have been found, then I am sure the officials will correct it," Soni told reporters on the sidelines of a function here. "Prasar Bharti is an autonomous body and they do not work according to my wishes," she added.
CAT had yesterday quashed the appointment of the journalists saying "irregularities" were committed to favour some candidates to get into Doordarshan News. The Tribunal headed by Chairman V K Bali cancelled the appointment of the journalists on the ground that rules for appointment were changed arbitrarily at the last moment at the
interview stage to pave the way for some candidates who did not perform well in the written test.
It noted that the number of journalists to be called for interview was increased from 30 to 35 to accommodate Yashvi Tirath (daughter of Union Minister Krishna Tirath) who ranked 33 in the written exam.
