New Delhi: Delhi PWD Minister Raj Kumar
Chouhan today requested the pilgrims going for the annual
`Urs` at Ajmer Sharif to pray for success of the Commonwealth
Games to be held here in October.
Chouhan was speaking after inauguration of a transit
camp for pilgrims attending the 798th annual Urs of Khwaja
Moinuddin Chisti at the famous shrine.
"Please pray for success of the Commonwealth Games to be
held here in October," he told the pilgrims in presence of
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Chouhan`s PWD department has undertaken projects worth
over Rs 10,000 crore to improve various road infrastructure in
the city ahead the event -- the biggest so far to be held in
India after the Asian Games in 1982.
The PWD department has been facing flak for its tardy
preparations for the event. Because of delay, the government
had to extend deadlines for several projects.
Under attack, Chauhan has already warned various
implementing agencies and contractors of punitive action if
they failed to complete the projects within the new deadlines.
The sporting event will be held in the city from October
3 to 14.
