Thiruvananthapuram: The city Mayor K
Chandrika on Wednesday protested against not allowing her car on
tarmac of the IAF airstrip where she had gone to see-off
President Pratibha Patil, who was on a three-day visit to the
state.
The Mayor's car was not allowed on the tarmac by IAF
personnel after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and ministers
Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, P K Jayalakshmi and Adoor Prakash
reached there in their vehicles.
Chandrika, who belongs to CPI-M, refused to go near the
aircraft to see off the President and staged a sit-in for
about 20 minutes, saying the Mayor should be regarded next to
Chief Minister as per protocol during VVIP visits.
Senior IAF officials later intervened and allowed her
vehicle before the see-off.
The President left for Delhi this afternoon after her
three-day visit during which she attended functions in
Kottayam, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.
