Chennai: Tamil Nadu police has arrested the
prime accused in the spurious drugs case from Hyderabad,
taking the total number of those held so far to 34.

"The prime accused, Kalva Srinivasalu (36), of Meerpet,
Hyderabad, was arrested on May 11," the CB-CID wing of the
state police said in a press release.

Srinivasulu’s accomplice, Vallamdas Ramu, has already been
arrested.

Of those arrested so far, 14 have been detained under the
Goonda Act.

The sale of spurious drugs came to light recently when
Drug Control Authority officials seized several thousands of
fake cough syrup bottles, manufactured under the label of a
leading company, from a godown in Cuddalore District.

Since then, DCA officials, with the help of police, have
raided more than 1,000 godowns of pharmaceutical firms and
shops across the state and seized spurious and expired drugs
worth several crores of rupees.

The main suspect in racket, Meenakshisundaram, Director
of Meena Healthcare, surrendered recently.
