Prioritise Lokpal, Women`s Reservation bills, says CPI-M

CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said extension of the session after a Christmas break was possible.

New Delhi: The government should give priority to passing the Lokpal and the Women`s Reservation Bills in the short Winter session of Parliament, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said on Thursday.

CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said extension of the session after a Christmas break was possible.

"Government has said this will be the last working session, and there are very few days to transact legislative business," Yechury said.

He said that taking out Thursday, when the houses were adjourned after obituary references, and the days of private members` bills, the session only has eight working days.

"Of these, two days will be for financial business, and two have to be given for discussion on important issues like price rise and Muzaffarnagar riots," he said.

"This leaves four days for legislative business," Yechury said.

"Lokpal Bill is a promise to people which the government must keep. Second priority should be the women`s reservation bill," he said.

The Winter session which began Dec 5 s scheduled to end Dec 20.
