SCORECARD» | COMMENTARY» | REPORT» ==================================================================================== India seal the first match against the West Indies quite comfortably with six wickets. After a fine performance by the Indian bowlers, Indian batsmen made sure that there team won the match comfortably to take 1-0 lead in the three match series. When India came to chase the small total of 211 set by the visiting team, India lost the first wicket early on in the form of in-form Shikhar Dhawan. But Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma continued their good form and played 86 and 72 runs knock respectively, to take India to a comfortable position. ==================================================================================== Indian Innings: Over 35.2 || Score 212/4 Dhoni smashed two back-to-back boundaries in the 34th over bowled by Holder. A big shot and the match will be in India’s pocket, as the host side needs just five runs. But in the 35th over bowled by Narine was a beauty. He beat Yuvraj four times out of six. But Yuvraj collected boundary in the next over with the help of an outside edge. And with that boundary India won the first ODI by six wickets. ==================================================================================== Over 33 || Score 198/4 After the fall of Kohli’s wicket, came in Suresh Raina, who bowled extremely well today and scalped three wickets as well. But his poor run with bat continued as he played a poor shot and gave an easy wicket to Narine. He failed to score a run. Indian skipper MS Dhoni came in the middle to join Yuvraj and collected a boundary off Narine's over fine leg region. Now just 14 runs are required for the home side to win this match. SK Raina c Holder b Narine 0 (5b) ==================================================================================== Over 32 || Score 193/3 Holder claimed his second wicket and that too of Virat Kohli. After launching the bowler for a six, Kohli tried yet another attempted to send him into the orbit, but this time he slightly mistimed the ball and it went high in the air. Narine got underneath it, took a simple catch. And Kohli walked towards the pavilion. Another match-winning knock by Kohli. V Kohli c Narine b Holder 86 (84b) ==================================================================================== Over 30 || Score 179/2 Narine has been reintroduced into the attack in the 29th over. And Yuvraj welcome him with a boundary. India collected five runs from the over. Holder bowled the 30th over. A tight over by the towering bowler, as he gave just two runs. Now India need just 33 runs to take 1-0 lead in the three match series. ==================================================================================== Over 28 || Score 172/2 Kohli smashed Rampaul out of the park. A short ball by the bowler and Kohli pounced on it, as if he was waiting for that ball. Now India need less than 50 runs to seal the match. Will Kohli score yet another hundred? Bowlers have no clue what so ever, how to take his wicket. Holder gave just six runs in 28th over. India may win the match in next five to seven overs. ==================================================================================== Over 26 || Score 159/2 Yuvraj Singh came in to bat after the fall of second Indian wicket. In last few innings, he hasn’t performed well. So it’s a good time for him to spend some time in the middle and get that confidence back. ==================================================================================== Over 25 || Score 150/2 Indian batting line up is undoubtedly the strongest in the world at the moment. Most of their top order batsmen have been going through sublime form. Finally, the skipper MJ Bravo himself has come to bowl in the 24th over. Kholi flicked the first ball for a single and completed his 27th ODI fifty. He hardly has any flaw in his batting. Six runs came from the first over of Bravo. As these two batsmen are playing in the middle, there is hardly any chance for the visiting team to make a comeback in this match. India touched the 150 runs mark as well. Finally, the strike bowler for West Indian, Rampaul gave his team another breakthrough in the form of Rohit Sharma. Sharma tried to launched the bowler for a six but found a fielder in the deep mid-wicket, who took a simple catch. RG Sharma c Simmons b Rampaul 72 (81b) ==================================================================================== Over 20 || Score 123/1 Both the batsmen are looking unstoppable at the moment. Sharma needs a special mention here. As he has been scoring boundaries at will. In the 19th and 20th over, he smashed two more boundaries to collect seven and eight runs respectively. India is at a commanding position thus far. Now India need just 89 runs in next 30 overs, which is like a cake walk for the Indian batting unit. ==================================================================================== Over 18 || Score 108/1 After bowling a good first over, Deonarine also leaked runs in his second. Rohit scored two consecutive boundaries off the bowler. First he drove towards point to collect his first boundary and then cut the ball towards point region for the next. With a sinle in the next ball Rohit completed yet another fifty. After four big knocks -- 141, 209, 177 and 111* -- Rohit completed another fifty. What a form he has been going through. India scored 11 from the over. In the next two overs, India only managed to score two runs each. ==================================================================================== Over 15 || Score 93/1 Deonarine has been called for the first time in the 14th over. It was good first over by him as he gave just four runs. In the next, Narine also bowled at a tight line and gave away just three runs. But West Indies need to take a few wickets to make a comeback in the match. Chris Gayle has been out of the ODI series due to injury. ==================================================================================== Over 13 || Score 86/1 Mystery spinner Sunil Narine has been given the ball by MJ Bravo. In the third ball, another boundary for India but this time from the bat of Rohit. Six runs from Narine’s first over. Sharma is now accelerating the run flow. In the 12th over bowled by Sammy, Rohit collected two boundaries. First boundary towards sweeper cover and then the next between point and cover region. Nine runs came from the over. Sharma is dealing in boundaries at the moment. He slogged Narine for six over mid-wicket. He is also going through a sublime form. Narine leaked 14 from the over. ==================================================================================== Over 10 || Score 57/1 Five runs came from the eighth over off Holder. But first ball of the next over off Rampaul, Kohli smashed it towards cover region for another boundary. His timing was impeccable while playing this shot. India collected six from this over. In this over India also crossed the 50 runs mark. First bowling change. Sammy has been introduced into the attack to bowl the 10 over. And Kohli collected yet another boundary. Five runs came from the over. ==================================================================================== Over 7 || Score 41/1 Jason Holder has been bowling really well. But it seems as if Virat has a solution for this as well. Kohli glanced holder towards square leg to collect his second boundary. What a shot by the future Indian skipper. In the first ball of the next over off Rampaul, Kohli collected yet another boundary through mid-wicket region. An effortless shot the Delhi lad. He has been in the form of his life. Six runs came from the 7th over. ==================================================================================== Over 5 || Score 27/1 First ball off the fifth over went for a boundary after getting a thick edge from Rohit’s bat. And that’s the only run came from the over. With an early breakthrough that too of in form batsman Shikhar Dhawan, West Indies has proved that they are still in the game. ==================================================================================== Over 4 || Score 23/1 Shikhar Dhawan Out. Jason Holder provided an early breakthrough to his team in the form of Dhawan. In the fourth over Dhawan tried to go for an half-hearted drive but only managed to get a thick outside edge and wicketkeeper took a simple catch. Virat Kohli came to the crease after the fall of first Indian wicket. And the second ball he played towards extra cover raced away for a boundary. In the last ball of the over Kohli collected two more runs to score seven from the over. S Dhawan c †Charles b Holder 5 (6b) ==================================================================================== Over 2 || Score 13/0 Towering Jason Holder is sharing the news ball with Rampaul. First delivery was a beauty which swung enough to beat Rohit’s bat as well as the wicketkeeper, as India collected four extra runs. In the last ball Dhawan played a crunchy drive over covers for his first four. Nine runs came from the over. ==================================================================================== Over 1 || Score 4/0 First ball was right on the money from Rampaul. But the second ball was a wide on leg stump. So, India opened its account with an extra. In the next two balls both Rohit and Dhawan took singles to open their account. There is no need for any of them to take any kind of risk. In the last ball Rohit took another single to collect four from the very first over. ==================================================================================== Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have come to the crease to open the Indian innings. Both of them have been in excellent form and played many winning opening partnerships for India in the recent past. Rampaul is opening the bowling for West Indies. ==================================================================================== Indian bowlers have done their job quite well, now the onus is on Indian batsmen, who are already in a fine form, to make sure that India chase this comparatively small total quite comfortably to win the first ODI. ==================================================================================== West Indian Innings Over 48.5 || Score 211 With the fall off R Rampaul’s wicket West Indies innings came to an end. Rampaul tried to launch Ashwin for a six but gave a simple catch to Dhawan at long on boundary. West Indies failed even to play the full quota of 50 overs and got all out at a total of 211. After a long time Indian bowlers manage to stop the opponent from scoring less than 300 runs. All the Indian spinners bowled really well. Especially Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina bowled their heart out and made sure that the visiting team won’t put up a big total. R Rampaul c Dhawan b Ashwin 1 (14b) ==================================================================================== Over 46 || Score 207/9 OUT! And Ashwin finally gets a wicket today! A leading edge and Narine handed an easy return catch to Ashwin. He goes back to the pavilion for a duck. Will Windies last 50 overs? Two runs and a wicket from the over. Darren Sammy holed out to Bhuvneshwar Kumar at long-on after lifting his first delivery of the 45th over. He scored 5 (16b). Sunil Narine is the new man in the middle. Just one run and a wicket from the over. ==================================================================================== Over 40 || Score 190/7 While bowling the 38th over, Shami bowled a poor second delivery and DJ Bravo punished it by hitting a boundary on leg side. Big blow for West Indies. Shami did not disappoint his skipper and gave India another breakthrough in the form of DM Bravo. Once again the ball kept low and went through the gates of batsman. Bravo got out after playing a knock of 59 runs. Double blow. One Bravo followed another to the pavilion. Irresponsible shot by the skipper DJ Bravo. He stepped out to send Jadeja out of the park but a good turn by the bowler fooled him completely and behind the stumps Dhoni did the rest. In the 40th over Shammi gave just one run. DJ Bravo st Dhoni b Jadeja 24 (28b) DM Bravo b Mohammed Shami 59 (77b) ==================================================================================== Over 37 || Score 177/5 Batting powerplay has been called by the West Indian team in the 36th over. DM Bravo, is taking calculative risks. In the 36th over he sent Jadeja into the orbit over mid-wicket boundary and collected eight runs from the over. After DM Bravo, Dwayne Bravo launched Ashwin in the next over for a maximum. Another bowling change by Dhoni. Now Shami has been given the ball. ==================================================================================== Over 35 || Score 163/5 In the 32nd over Deonarine tried to hit Raina out of the park, a highly irresponsible shot. He exposed his leg stump and the ball hit the timber. Third wicket for Raina. Deonarine only managed to score four runs. Half of the visiting team is back in the pavilion. Skipper Dwayne Bravo has come to the crease after the fall of fifth West Indian wicket. Bravo brothers are at the crease. They have to make sure that they both stick to the crease till the 45 over, to take their team to a respectable total. Rohit Sharma another part time spinner has been given the ball by Dhoni. Only two runs each came from the 32nd and 33rd over. Indian fielding standards in today’s game has certainly touched a new level. DM Bravo completed his 13th ODI fifty with a single in the 34th over. Six runs came from the over. In the next Sharma spent just two runs. N Deonarine b Raina 4 (14b) ==================================================================================== Over 30 || Score 148/4 In the 27th over bowled by Ashwin, first Simmons hit the bowler out of the park by launching him over square leg and then Bravo smacked him over covers for a boundary to collect 11 runs from the over. Out. Raina took his second wicket in the form of Simmons. Ball pitched in the middle and leg line and hit the front pad of Simmons. Bowler and Dhoni appealed and without giving it a second thought umpire raised his figure. Though in the replays it was clearly visible the ball was going down leg side. Unlucky Simmons scored 29 runs before given out. It was a wicket maiden for Raina. Ashwin gave mere two from the next. N Deonarine has come to the crease after the fall of fourth West Indian wicket. Raina is looking dangerous at the moment. LMP Simmons lbw b Raina 29 (40b) ==================================================================================== Over 25 || Score 128/3 In the 24th over by Shami, Simmons got lucky as he tried to place the ball through covers, only managed a thick outside edge, but there were no slips and the ball crossed the boundary ropes. Eight runs came from the over. Ashwin on the other end, is hardly giving any runs away. Two runs came from the over number 25 bowled by him. After the end of 25th over, one can say that India have dominated the proceedings so far. ==================================================================================== Over 23 || Score 118/3 Shami has been reintroduced into the attack in the 22nd over. Dhoni is mixing his bowlers well. And a big lbw appeal by Shami off the first ball but umpire rejected it. Economical over by Shami, as he gave just two runs. In the 23rd over, Ashwin’s third ball was quite short and Bravo smashed it by hitting it for a four over mid-wicket. Seven runs came from the over. ==================================================================================== Over 20 || Score 106/3 DM Bravo and Lendl Simmons are at the crease. West Indies need a big partnership now. Bravo collected a boundary off the 16th over bowled by Raina, by placing the ball fine over third man for his first boundary. Six runs came from it. Jadeja is bowling at a tight line and not giving easy runs to the batsmen. He gave away just four runs in the 17th over. Raina and Jadeja are bowling in tandem. Just once run from the next. R Ashwin has been given the ball for the very first time in the 19th over. Six runs from the first over of Ashwin. A thick fine edge from the bat of Bravo and the ball crossed the ropes. It was certainly a delight to watch. Samuels Out. Raina gave India another breakthrough. A simple ball by Raina that kept really low and hit the stumps. Samuels must be disappointed as he was playing really well. In the 15th over by Jadeja came just one run. West Indies is once again on the back-foot. MN Samuels b Raina 24 (35b) ==================================================================================== Over 11 || Score 67/2 Dhoni has introduced spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the 11th over. He has been known as golden arm bowler. And Out. Jadeja doesn't disappoint his skipper and once again justified why he has been called a bowler with a golden arm. A full stretched dive by Jadeja and Charles is back in the pavilion. Charles got out after scoring 42 runs in mere 34 balls. That’s the wicket India needed. J Charles c & b Jadeja 42 (34b ) ==================================================================================== Over 10 || Score 63/1 Even after the fall of first wicket in the very first over, Charles and Samuels are playing fearless cricket, which has paid off well till now as the West Indian team is in a good position right now with 63 runs on the board. ==================================================================================== Over 9 || Score 55/1 Unadkat is not bowling on a good line and length. Charles smashed his sixth boundary this time by making some room to play over point fielder. Six runs came from the eighth over. Mohammed Shami has been introduced into the attack by Dhoni in the ninth over. What a find he has turned out to be for India. Charles collected another boundary off the fourth ball by Shami. They have started playing their shots, albeit three runs came from the fifth over. ==================================================================================== Over 4 || Score 19/1 Bhuvi is bowling at a tight line and not offering much room to the batsmen. One run came from the third over. Gayle played the ball and tried to steal a run but Bhuvneshwar Kumar hit the stumps in a flash to send back Gayle. A big blow for West Indies. CH Gayle run out 0 (2b) ==================================================================================== Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles are at the crease to open the innings for the West Indian side, whereas Bhuvenshwar Kumar is ready to bowl the first over for India. ==================================================================================== As far as Indian ODI team is concerned, India haven’t lost a series this year. On top of it in the last five matches they have chased more than 350 runs that too against Australia. So the Indian team must be high on spirits. On the other hand the West Indies haven’t performed well in the recent past. But in limited over cricket you never know. ==================================================================================== TOSS: West Indies have won the toss and elected to bat first. PREVIEW After demolishing the West Indies in Sachin Tendulkar`s emotionally draining farewell Test series, the Indian cricket team will look to extend its supremacy in the ODIs as well when the two sides face off in a three-match series starting in Kochi from today.
