Queen's Baton for CWG received in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Queen's Baton for the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) reached here this afternoon to a rousing reception.

The Queen's Baton received from Raipur was handed over to the officials of Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association, AP Sports Authority and state government at the Shamshabad International airport.

"We are feeling proud and happy. We will make Queen's Baton Relay a grand success. We extend a grand welcome to the baton team. Hyderabad city will celebrate the relay today and tomorrow," an organiser told reporters.

The baton then proceeded towards Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy (KVBR)Indoor Stadium in Yousufguda via the P V Narasimha Rao Expressway in a convoy of vehicles.

The Queen's Baton will be handed over to the first bearer--World No 2 badminton player Saina Nehwal by Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan, who will flag off the relay at the KVBR Indoor Stadium.

The baton is scheduled to reach the People's Plaza by 6 pm where the official ceremony will be held and ace shooter Gagan Narang will be the last baton bearer, who will hand it over to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah.

The Queen's Baton will be kept for public display at the KVBR Stadium and the team will leave for Visakhapatnam tomorrow by 11.45 am.
