Railways seek MHA inquiry into Rajdhani hijack

Railways have written a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking a Central probe into the Rajdhani hijack incident even as an inquiry is being conducted by the West Bengal police.

New Delhi: Railways have written a letter to
the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking a Central probe
into the Rajdhani hijack incident even as an inquiry is being
conducted by the West Bengal police.

Railway Board Chairman S S Khurana has written the letter
to the Home Secretary G K Pillai for an MHA inquiry into the
Rajdhani hijack near Midnapore last week, Railway Ministry
sources said.

Khurana has also written a letter to Secretary of
Department of Personnel and Training S Consul seeking CBI
probe into the October 21 Mathura train collision incident
which claimed 22 lives, the sources added.

However, the CBI cannot initiate the inquiry without the
consent of the state government concerned.

According to the sources, the letter to the DopT has
pointed out that the incident could be part of larger
conspiracy and needs to be investigated by the CBI as the
alarm chain inside a coach of the Mewar Express was pulled
forcing the train to an unscheduled stop.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is still
continuing with its inquiry into the Mathura incident.

The CRS is expected to submit a preliminary report on the
incident early next month, the sources said.
