New Delhi: Railways is likely to name one of the new trains announced on Wednesday by Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal after the Delhi gang-rape victim.

According to sources, the railway ministry could make a formal announcement soon that the Chhapra-Anand Vihar Express (weekly) will be named either 'Nirbhaya' or 'Beti' after the girl.

The train will pass through Ballia, which is the hometown of the girl, they said.

The 23-year-old paramedical student was raped and brutally assaulted by six persons in a moving bus here on December 16 last year. She was admitted to a Singapore hospital where she succumbed on December 29.

Bansal, while replying to railway debate in Parliament today, announced introduction of 19 more trains, including the Chhapra-Anand Vihar Express.

Sources said railways had received representations from the local leaders in Ballia for a train connecting the national capital to their town and naming it after the girl.

This is plain absurd! Why the hell should a train / road / aeroport / stadium or whatever get named after an unfortunate rape victim? Rather than going for these laughable-lamentable post tragedy sops, Government should better concentrate on pre-emptive measures and deliverance of swift justice wherever such injustices happen. What is this NIRBHAYA CRAP any way? Whats BRAVE about getting raped? The poor girl got raped brutally and most unfortunately died. Issues to be addressed are avoidance of WHY she got raped in the first place and speediest possible justice to hang those rascals who are feeding on tax payer`s money in Tihar jail now!

Rather than doing all this `thamasha`, the Govt can concentrate on doing something really serious to prevent repetition of such heinous crime and enhance the security for women. In fact they must take a leaf out of the noble gesture of the girl`s parents who have refused to accept the 1.8 lakh refund of tution fee and requested the institute to use it for helping deserving students.
