New Delhi: The news of Baba Ramdev`s eviction was one of the most searched items by Indians on Sunday, according to data by Google Trends.
Google Trends, the web facility which ranks the most searched topics on the Internet, showed `Ramdev Arrested` as the second most searched item between Saturday 2 a.m. and Sunday 4 pm.
Police cracked down on Ramdev and his supporters in New Delhi`s Ramlila Ground after midnight Saturday and forcibly removed the yoga guru from the site. He was then evicted from the capital.
The incident created ripples on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook with young India fiercely expressing its views on the action against yoga guru`s satyagraha.
An agitated Rahul Walia, 22, posted on social networking site Facebook, "Proud to be an Indian with such brutal death of democracy happening. Isn`t the right to freedom of speech and expression our fundamental right?"
Various groups in support of the yoga guru also saw active posting of comments and new members joining in to express their views.
"Baba Ramdev- Fight against Corruption", "A movement against corruption - we are with Baba Ramdeva and Anna Hazare ji" and "Baba Ramdev support group" were some of the groups that emerged active on social networking sites in the last 24 hours.
Manav Agarwal, a member of one of the groups, posted, "A peaceful `yoga camp` turned into a modern day `Jallianwala Bagh` last night with the police lathi-charging on the `demonstrators`. Is this dictatorship or democracy?"
"We are with you Baba Ramdev...nobody can raise voice like you but now it`s the time that every Indian should raise his voice against corruption and black money," wrote 27-year old Ankit Trehan on his Facebook page.
While not all echoed Ramdev`s fast-unto-death saga, there was some humour too that engaged most of the sleep-deprived netizens who took a stock of the "midnight drama" on Internet.
"So now we are actually looking like a country of yogis, babas, snake charmers. Welcome back to the storytelling days," humoured 21-year-old Shefali Pundeer.
