New Delhi: With public support pouring in from every nook and corner of the country and the government clearing way for Anna Hazare’s fast for a strong Lokpal Bill, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is also putting its best effort in preparing the Ramlila Maidan for veteran Gandhian’s agitation.

Delhi deputy Mayor, Anil Sharma, Thursday, confirmed that preparations are in full swing and the cleanup operation at the Ramlila Ground is being carried at a fast pace.

Sharma told reporters, “The employees of MCD are putting their best effort to ensure the grounds are ready. It has been raining for the past three days so there is lot of water inside the ground and the land has become marshy.”

“Although it’s a huge ground, but I can assure that by the evening, hopefully, we will be able to ready for Anna Hazare’s scheduled fast,” Sharma said.

He further informed that all top officials are at the ground to oversee the cleaning work being carried here. We have deployed over 200 labourers for cleaning and levelling the ground.”

“In addition to this, we have put water sucking machines, and other equipments to fast track the work,” adding that the municipal agency is getting full support from Team Anna.

Replying to reporters about other facilities, Sharma said that MCD is coordinating with other agencies like the Delhi Jal Board and Delhi Police to ensure that Anna’s supporters get all basic facilities including clean drinking water, mobile toilets and adequate parking space during the agitation.

Interestingly, Sharma, on a personal note, said that MCD does not want to lag behind at a time when the entire nation is contributing in one way or another to Anna’s agitation, adding that MCD will make best efforts to ensure the success of the Anna’s movement.

Anna is currently in Tihar Jail and will reach Ramlila Maidan tomorrow morning, his aides said. However, as per reports, people have already started to flock the grounds, which has stood witness many epic rallies.
