Mumbai: Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi on Saturday said his party would launch a 'jail bharo' (court arrest) agitation on January 20 if "innocent Muslims" jailed in connection with Malegaon, Samjhauta Express, Ajmer and Mecca bomb blasts are not released.

"In view of the (reported) confession by jailed RSS leader Swami Aseemanand, prime accused in Mecca Masjid blast, that he and several Sangh activists among others had a direct role in Malegaon, Samjhauta Express, Ajmer and Mecca blasts, innocent Muslims languishing in jails in these cases should be released immediately," he told reporters here.

Police officials who falsely implicated innocent Muslims in these cases should be punished, the MLA said, adding he has written a letter in this regard to the Prime Minister and also Maharashtra Chief Minister and Home Minister.

Aseemanand (59), in a statement recorded before a Magistrate, is believed to have laid bare the role of right wing extremists in executing bomb blasts in Mecca Masjid, Malegaon, Samjhaouta Express and Ajmer Sharif.
