Retail FDI suspension not govt’s failure: Sushma

New Delhi: Welcoming the government’s decision to suspend the move to allow 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said that it is the victory of public opinion and democracy.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday after Finance Minister read out a one line statement announcing the government’s intention to hold the FDI rollout for now, Swaraj said, “We welcome the government’s decision. It is not a defeat of the government but is only the victory of public opinion.”

“Government bowed before public opinion. It is a big victory of democracy. I thank Pranab Mukherjeeji and the Prime Minister for the same,” she added.

Really speakingg, public not won in FDI, only opposition political parties, small traders, small shoppers were enjoyed on the roll back of FDI. As far as public are concerned, it was a defeat and they missed a good chance to see our cities with organised retail outlets as well as they were delayed now to get discounted retail products.

FDI itroduction would have been in the interest of consumers for quality products at lower prices and for better prices to farmers for their produce. More jobs would have been created. However certain checks could have been suggested by opposition parties to avoid exploitation. The automobile industry is an example .
