Bhopal: After 37 years, Indian Railway Signal and Telecommunication Staff Association (IRSTSA) on Sunday threatened to go on "work to rule strike" to protest shortage
of manpower, among others things.
"We have decided to go on the work to rule strike. The final decision and date of it will be worked out at Central Working Committee meeting of IRSTSA to be held in West Bengal in February," the association general secretary Tehsildar Singh and treasurer DN Lal told reporters here.
They said though they were raising their demands for last couple of years, nothing had been done to redress them.
The duo said their department was plagued with shortage of manpower and over-stressed, adding whenever a train accident takes place they are looked upon the culprits by the
public.
"The number of trains and its speed has increased manifold in last couple of years, but the workforce had been trimmed. The workers in our department were over-stressed and
being paid low salaries," Singh and Lal said.
Singh and Lal said IRSTSA had protested in 1973 when Lalit Narayan Mishra was the Union Railway Minister and recalled that then the railway services were badly paralysed.
